State police in Hartford County arrested Christopher Nunez, age 32, of New Britain on Monday, Oct. 3 in connection with the Thursday, May 5 incident.
According to state police, the incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Whitehead Highway when a state trooper reported being nearly struck by a gray Toyota Highlander which merged into the trooper's lane without using a signal, according to an arrest warrant.
The trooper activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but instead of stopping Nunez slowed the vehicle to 15 mph before speeding away, state police said.
The trooper shut off his lights and siren and did not pursue the Highlander, the arrest warrant said.
Through investigative techniques, the trooper was able to determine the operator of the vehicle was renting the SUV and an arrest warrant was issued.
On Monday, state troopers were notified that Nunez was in custody at the New Britain Police Station.
Nunez was picked up and processed at Troop H and charged with:
- Engaging in a pursuit
- Operating with a suspended license
- Reckless driving
- Improper signaling
- Failure to operate within the established lane
He was released after posting a $2,500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Oct. 21.
